About The Curator
D. Kessinger is a dynamic contemporary artist, curator, and award-winning film director based in the New York Metropolitan area. Her innovative curatorial practice is distinguished by a commitment to collaboration and inclusivity, forging partnerships with artists, institutions, and leaders within the art industry.
Central to Kessinger’s artistic vision is the preservation and celebration of feminist history. Through her compelling video art and oral histories, she shines a spotlight on pivotal figures such as Mary Beth Edelson, Nancy Spero, Janet Henry, Carolee Schneemann, and Kate Millett, ensuring their legacies endure. Kessinger’s impactful work in archiving feminist narratives has been showcased at esteemed venues including the Jersey City Museum, RedSaw Gallery (Newark NJ), and internationally through ARTFEM.TV.
Her influential video project Les Biens is archived at the Rhizome Artbase, New Museum, while her REPOhistory sign design enriches the NYU Fales Library and Special Collections Archive. Notable achievements include her involvement with the Project Involve for Documentary cohort at the Independent Feature Project (IFP) in 2003 and collaborations with esteemed institutions like the Guggenheim Museum and Museum of Modern Art PS1.
Kessinger holds a BFA in sculpture from Kent State University and an MA in arts administration from the University of Kentucky, underpinning her comprehensive understanding of artistic practice and management. Through her multifaceted career, Kessinger continues to push boundaries, championing feminist perspectives and forging meaningful connections within the global art community.
